Sometimes my laptop or smartphone acts up. Won’t work as it’s supposed to. Acts weird.
At those times, I do a hard reset.
Turn the device off… and back on again.
Miraculously, it now works just fine!
Sometimes it’s the same with life.
Things don’t go the way they’re supposed to. Or I get bogged down in trivia.
At those times, I take a close look.
And carry out a hard reset.
It’s time for one of those now.
Starting this year, I slashed my ‘social-media time‘.
Hours I spend using Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp.
Oh, and playing online chess! 🤦♂️
Also, I’ll be drastically cutting down on any kind of interaction or engagement – with anybody, for any reason at all.
That’s the result of a prolonged session of year-end introspection.
It revealed how badly other things have taken a hit since we emerged from a COVID-lockdown – and I began socializing once again.
2020 and 2021 were a washout for many.
I thrived during that time.
2022 was a refreshing relief for the partying types.
I joined in that movement. Blindly.
But I’m a loner. And so…
It backfired.
And I’ve lost momentum – on projects that matter to me.
So…
It’s time for another hard reset.
In case you, too, feel the same – and want to know my process – here’s what I’ve done.
1. Notified people in my network about this plan.
2. Wound up all pre-existing commitments, so nobody is inconvenienced.
3. Locked down my social feeds (there’s a nifty tool called ‘News Feed Eradicator‘ that does it neatly)
4. Made up ‘white lists’ of people to engage with (all the rest will be ignored!)
5. Drafted a standard ‘apology note’ to share with anyone who is offended by #4 😂
Then comes the difficult bit…
Sticking With The Plan!
